Kids Wrestling Training

Hi, Dude here. It's exciting to be a part of kids training at a sport. You never know when you might be working with a real world class athlete in the making. This goes especially for kids wrestling.

Wrestling is a tough sport, and it's hard to imagine little kids doing those tough moves as they writhe on the mat, one trying to pin the other. But kids wrestling training is a great way to teach children discipline, camaraderie, it will get them in shape and they'll probably have a blast doing it.

The toughest part about kids wrestling training is keeping the kids focused. Everyone knows that children have absolutely no attention span. If you don't keep them entertained, they're going to start doing their own thing, or acting out, and soon you have a gym full of screaming kids. This is where the discipline comes in. The coach must be tough on the kids. Parents watching a coach scream at their child is often a very jarring thing to watch, but it's necessary to teach that child discipline. You bet that kid isn't going to talk back or whine after that tongue lashing. It's also not uncommon for a coach to make the kids do laps, or pushups, or some other insane exercise as punishment for not doing what they're told. This builds character, and it's good for the kids.

Another hard part about teaching kids wrestling is getting them to do the technique correctly. Wrestling moves are very technical, and if they're not done correctly, the opponent will have the upper hand; and someone could even get hurt. A good coach will teach kids wrestling in a language they can understand. Keeping things simple makes it seem easy for them, and soon they'll have the technique down pat. In fact, it's best to start as a kid because if you can master technique as a child, imagine the powerhouse you'll be as a teenager.

Firm But Gentle

You can learn all the technique in the world, but the moment you start wrestling your mind starts going a million miles a minute. The opponent's on top of you, you can't breathe and you can't imagine a way out of this hold he has you in. That's wrestling, and it can get very brutal. But kids wrestling isn't as tough as, say, two high school seniors going at it. The kids must be taught to wrestle, but they must also learn to be gentle. They are kids, after all. Their bones are still developing and they're brittle. So make sure they learn to go hard, but not too hard.

Kids wrestling training is a great way to train a kid discipline, as well as how to defend himself. Plus it's a lot of fun. Winning isn't the only part of it. There's a lot more to it. A kid who's been through wrestling training clearly stands apart from a kid who has never stepped foot on a mat. There's a confidence in his step, in his look, and in his mind as he knows that he's been through something that not many people can take; and he did it as a kid.
